U.S. January Personal Income and Spending

Personal income decreased $505.5 billion, or 3.6 percent, and disposable personal income decreased $491.4 billion, or 4.0 percent, in January, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Personal consumption expenditures increased $18.2 billion, or 0.2 percent. 

Real disposable income decreased 4.0 percent in January, in contrast to an increase of 2.7 percent in December. Real PCE increased 0.1 percent, the same increase as in December.
