Watching the watchers has
been a great topic of discussion over the past years; responding to this
age-old point, Los Angeles Police aims at testing the body mounted cameras which would be used to
record the way officers interact with the citizens; on the other hand, New York
Police is evaluating this technology. It is reported that, in 2012 police force
started trying out with the wearable cameras in Rialto. According to
the Rialto chief of police, Tony Farrar the results were amazing; a throw in
incidents including use of forces dropped to 25 this year from 65 in 2011;
complaints from the citizens went down from 28 to 3. The supporters say that benefits
of these wearable cameras are twofold; they help in gathering the evidences at
crime scene, offering a check on abuses of power and redundant force and
creating the officers’ behavior records.
